Wednesday 27th April 2022 - I spent about 7 hours in Ron McCombe's terrific wildlife hide in Scottish Borders. Ron has set it up to bring European Badgers to the area. Takes patience as badgers can come at any time. Their sense of hearing is acute so you have to keep very still and quiet. Well worth contacting Ron McCombe and booking a slot. Or in his wildbirds hide. Both hides are heated and Ron gives very useful photography assistance.
This was my ninth visit to the badger hide. I just love it when the badger's nose appears through the hedge.
Badgers came to the area , about 20 metres from me, numerous times during the seven hours.
Ron now has a reflection pool
right in front of the photography hide. After a few visits, a badger climbed at the reflection pool. Then , I was thrilled, two badgers face to face at the reflection pool. The reflection pool is about 6 metres from the hide.
It got rather chilly outside and ice began to form on the reflection pool suface. So I headed homewards at 3.30am.
At one point, I had three badgers at different areas feeding.
There is also a large hollow log that the badgers are coming through.
For this visit. I used my Canon 1dx MkII Camera. Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 L IS II USM Lens
I took over 700 images with my camera. I have added 160 images I am thrilled at taking to this page.
I plan to go back to Ron's badger hide in June and July. Cubs should also be coming to the area by then.
